4 mixed-media drawings were at the center of extreme controversy opening night at the Untitled fair in Miami when artist Camilo Restrepo combined a kitchen appliance to the works. The drug violence erupting in Colombia over the years but most notably during the artists’ tumultuous childhood have had radiating affects on the lives of people as well as the artist himself. In an attempt to translate his artist concept, Restrepo attached hoses of steam from the described kitchen appliance to blast away the top surface of each work to reveal the detail in layers he created. The layers of Colombian society were ultimately depicted through vibrant maps affixed with a mixture of saliva, tape , and wax. Ultimately the fire marshals curtailed the artists’ behavior and forced the artist to cease and desist in his effort to reveal the layers of his experience.
